My Life
Nana Fofie, a 28-year-old singer and songwriter born and raised in the Netherlands of Ghanaian decent. On June 1st 1995 Nana was born into a family of six with two older brothers ( the late Philip Fofie, Dennis toppin Fofie and her sister Louisa Fofie. Nana was the last born. Louisa Fofie was born on the 1st of June 1990 and Nana Was born on the 1st of June in 1995. The two share a birthday but are not actual twins. Nana grew up in a wholesome Ghanaian household, for others to be considered quite untraditional. Her late father Nana Kofi Oben Fofie was an experienced businessman with multiple properties. Apart from various companies he was a singer who showed The family the various sides of music, from Reggea to traditional Ghanaian music to R&B. Along with her siblings, Fofie started writing and playing around with music from the early age of 5. Nana and her sister Louisa fell in love with singing whilst watching the movie sister act 2,in one of the scenes you could see Lauryn Hill sing at a church. That’s when Nana realised she wanted to be that one day. At 18 Nana Fofie started music College in Rotterdam where she successfully graduated from. At 22 Nana Fofie started professionally recording music. Nana’s first published video was the “Mad over you mashup” that gained a lot of popularity and over 7 million views and counting on YouTube . At first Nana viewed this as an amusing way to express her passion for music, she never expected it to ‘’blow-up’’ like it did, she refers to that time in the beginning of her career as “fun”.
In the spring of 2018, the singer and songwriter released two successful singles ‘’Odo’’, ‘’Bebe’’ and ‘’International’’. The success of these singles resulted in the release of her debut EP ‘’RNBW’’. With popular tracks such as ‘’Sa Na Me Pe’’, ‘’Désolé’’ and ‘’Afterparty’’.
At the end of 2018 the American rapper, Nicki Minaj posted a video on Instagram in which ‘’Mad over you Mash-up’’ by Nana played in the background. Following this post, days later a second post surfaced on Nicki Minaj’s Instagram account with an original song by nana called “Odo” playing in the background again. In that same year Nicki Minaj referred to Nana during an episode of her podcast Queen Radio: “I don’t know if she is Nigerian, but she is so fucking dope. I wish I had more time to play her music, because I hope to work with her. In 2019 Nana Fofie opened up for Nicki Minaj during her Worldtour Along side the late Juice world. In 2022 Nicki Minaj hinted of sining a Ghanaian artist this year .. many believe she’s talking about Nana Fofie because she posted Nana Fofie on her Instagram page in 2020 saying “I can’t wait to sign her to my label” Nana Fofie has released over 15 singles in the past few years and has hinted on dropping an EP early 2023.
